Call for Volunteers!

The Easthampton Farmers’ Market is seeking volunteers for our 2020 season! Volunteering for us is a way to get involved in the community, connect with your neighbors, and promote access to local food, and get involved. If you are interested in helping, please email our Market Manager to get involved!

Here are the ways you can help:

1. Break-down Help

***This year we really need one or two volunteers to help with break-down for a minimum of 2 markets per month, especially May 31-August 30.****

Responsibilities:
(2-3 pM) Assist vendors and market manager with loading products and breaking down tents, tables, chairs and signs.

Qualifications:

  • positive attitude and willingness to work
  • ability to carry items, set up signs and tents

Commitment: one or two Sundays a month during the season (especially needed May-August)

 

2. Greeter/HIP volunteer

Why: We need your help to welcome and guide customers through the market’s benefit programs.

The Easthampton Farmers’ Market welcomes all community members! The market and its vendors offer a variety of benefits to help families access fresh, local food on a budget.

Programs available at the market:

  • SNAP, a federal program for supplemental nutrition assistance
  • HIP, a Massachusetts program that gives SNAP recipients extra money for local, healthy fruits and vegetables
  • WIC FMNP, a Massachusetts program especially for women with young children
  • Senior FMNP, a Massachusetts program especially for seniors

Responsibilities:

  • Become familiar with SNAP, HIP, and other benefit programs (we’ll teach you!)
  • Be a friendly face at market; help the market manager greet customers
  • Help inform folks who qualify for HIP about the benefit and answer any follow-up questions they may have about HIP or HIP vendors
  • Work with market coordinator and vendors to help make the environment welcoming to all

Qualifications:

  • friendly, welcoming attitude
  • interest in helping people access healthy food
  • respectful toward all; able to be discreet
  • ability to learn about and explain benefits to customers

Where: Easthampton Farmers’ Market, 50 Payson Ave

When: Sundays from May 31- Oct 11 

Shifts: 10-Noon and/or Noon-2pm

Commitment:  2-3 Sundays during the season

 

3. HIP outreach volunteer

Why: We need your help to spread the word about the market’s benefit programs.

  • Work with market staff to hang flyers about the program
  • Help spread the word about market benefits and answer questions that community groups may have

  • interest in helping people access healthy food
  • respectful toward all; able to be discreet
  • ability to learn about and explain benefits to customers
  • helpful: having connections in Easthampton

Where: around town

When: Anytime during the season, May 31 – Oct 11

Commitment: 5 hours/month
